Close to Den Oever, in the most easterly part of Holland outside Amsterdam, is the village of Oosterland, blessed with a beautiful church built from tuff stones. In the village centre you can smell the salty Wadden air, as it is just a short walk to the dike that separates the village from the Waddenzee. After climbing it, you can sit on a bench and look out far over the mudflats. This is a must-see for bird watchers because here you can observe birds foraging on the mudflats on one side, and grassland birds in fields scattered with buttercups and dandelions on the other. Not surprisingly, many guests hang up their binoculars here and put on their hiking boots to explore this beautiful area by foot.
