The village of Winkel is situated beside the West-Frisian Circular Dyke. North Holland's most famous dike, which protects inhabitants against the advances of the sea, winds its way through the West Frisian landscape, beside polders, windmills and VOC towns. Built by human hands, this 126-kilometre-long dike is a monument in itself. For cycling or hiking lovers many trips over and around the dike are available.
The village of Winkel is also considerably older than the West-Frisian Circular Dyke. In the Groet Polder, which borders with Winkel, prehistoric remains from old settlements dating from 2500 BC have been found. The centrally located 'Regthuis' dating from 1600 was once used as a weigh house and town hall, but nowadays houses the Perfume Bottle Museum. Just outside the small centre of Winkel is a beautifully designed golf course; Golf & Countryclub ’t Regthuys. Deservedly voted Golf Course of the Year 2014-2015!
